I have been exploring ideas for a painting series featuring the mythical Middle Eastern entities, the Jinn. Part of my studies at Columbia University’s Middle East department was the West’s projection of condescension and erroticism on Middle East people which justified brutal colonialism. This is known as Orientalism, and the term was thoroughly explored by Edward Said in his book bearing the same name.
